Michelle’s Latest Serving of Weaksauce

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

The basis of Michelle’s latest serving of bovine fecal matter comes from the wonderful world of being green. For purposes of setting the right starting point, here’s the campaign promise, straight from Obama:

Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars — cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon — on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America.

So we’re clear, this is a campaign promise that Obama wants to work on once he takes office. Note the date. It’s 11/23.

So, naturally, NOW is the time to say Obama’s a hypocrite on hybrid cars, because he’s going to be driven around in a gas guzzler.

Michelle, who hasn’t missed an lame excuse to bash the President-elect for things he has no actual control over yet, has this to say:

Well, who is surprised by this story about the “monster gas-guzzling” Obamamobile? Once a Drive as I Say-er, always a Drive as I Say-er…Obama’s eco-hypocrisy emission standard: Still high.

The trouble with all of this, is that this limo is for the President, whoever that was going to be.

A spy photographer who tracks down future car models for magazines snatched pictures of the heavily disguised first-car-in-waiting when it was being road-tested last summer.

I’m reading this, and my take is that they mean Summer of 2007. Well, hell. If you knew THAT far back you were going to lose the election, you could have saved yourself at least $150,000.

This car was already constructed and being road tested before anyone had any clue that Barack Obama was going to run away with it. This is of course, ignoring the fact that a car that gets 10 miles a gallon is stupid, no matter who the guy in the back is, Republican or Democrat. I doubt seriously that this would be an issue if McCain was the guy in the back of that limo, despite The Republican Candidates own campaign promises:

John McCain Will Propose A $300 Million Prize To Improve Battery Technology For Full Commercial Development Of Plug-In Hybrid And Fully Electric Automobiles.

True, Malkin and the bloglemmings didn’t like Mac either, but the argument would still change from energy hypocrisy to the proper and appropriate protection of the President and The Vice President. The fact that it sucks down gas like it was a bottomless Big Gulp would be conveniently be sidestepped by the fact that the Republicans want to drill baby drill. What’s 10 miles a gallon if it’s American oil supplying that gas?

The only thing that could make this more laughable is finding out that Malkin drives a Ford Expedition or something that gets gets 15-20 mpg tops, with a steering wheel in one hand, Blackberry in the other, and no concept of the words “blind spot”, or “turn signal”. That’s just humorous speculation of course, but can’t you just SEE that?

Going to great lengths for free fuel

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Some U.S. motorists sick of getting clobbered at the pump seem willing to do just about anything for free fuel, from giving up the right to name their children to stealing from day-care centers to donating blood.

Adjusting To My Needs

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Bush: “I regret that gas prices are so high, but people will adjust to their own needs.”

Yup. They’re going to put gas in the tank to get to work, and not get that prescription they need. Or, maybe they’ll eat Ramen noodles for dinner. Better still, they’ll let their kids eat instead.

We’re not all middle class, sir. Some of us have more basic needs, and some of us make choices you’ve most likely never had to make. Some people’s needs are simply survival, and sadly, gas may be required in that daily fight. We all don’t live in a metropolitan area with a bus or subway system.

Little help? That’s all I’m sayin.

Oh, who am I kidding? Bye, Dubya.

Cost of oil, gas is totally bogus for surfers

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Nick Risse looks over their line of surfboards at Surftech in Huntington Beach, Calif., Friday, June 27, 2008. The industry depends on petroleum-based products to build and ship its boards. And surfers in search of the biggest waves have to dig deeper into the pockets to fill their gas tanks or book flights to the best breaks around the world, including far-flung places like South Africa and Tahiti. (AP Photo/Chris Carlson)The surging cost of oil has been a dose of reality for many surfers who have long thought of their sport as a counterculture niche shielded from the pressures of mainstream America.

An Experiment in Demand Destruction

Friday, June 27th, 2008

This morning, take note of the following:

How’s the traffic? When you look at the cars on the road, how many of them have more than one person occupying the vehicle.

Are there a lot more small cars on the road?

Look at the bus stops, and park and rides. Are there more people?

Are there a lot more scooters and motorcycles on the road?

Judging by what I’m seeing, there’s a change in demand.

Astronauts Hardest Hit By High Gas Prices

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Although it looks very cool, driving the Space Shuttle will cost you. The shuttle burns 540,000 gallons of fuel just to go 200 miles, costing $2,197,800 to fill the tank. If you rent the Shuttle from Hertz, that jumps to $3,421,675. That’s roughly 3.7037 x 10-4 miles per gallon, which ranks just slightly more fuel-efficient than the Hummer H2, whic
