Pajamas Media » Was the ‘Barack the Magic Negro’ Ditty Really Racist?.
I have a very simple way for Ruben Navarette, Jr. to better determine whether or not The Magic Negro Song is racist. Simply walk up to the next black guy you see, and see how far you get into that song before you get a foot up your ass.
It’s not the parody. It’s the word Negro. The dude at the LA Times who wrote the original article shouldn’t have used it, Shanklin shouldn’t have recorded it, Rush shouldn’t have played it, and you asshats shouldn’t be arguing the point.
Come on. Is this where you want to make a stand on parody? Next thing you know, the image of KKK dudes burning crosses will be perfectly acceptable, so long as they’re wearing the Groucho Marx glasses/nose/mustache over their hoods.
“See, we’re not racist, we’re being absurd!”
No, you’re being racist and absurd at the same time.
Find another hill to fight on, idiots.
