Who’s Sanjay Gupta? Don’t Ask Savage.

Posted by admin On January - 6 - 2009

In talking about the possible appointment of Sanjay Gupta for Surgeon General, it became abundantly clear that Dr. Savage hasn’t got the slightest idea who Sanjay Gupta IS, other than a talking head on TV.

Hey Mike, lay off whatever plant you found that makes you that stupid, and try reading his bio.

At least Malkin got it right, sort of. She’s still having trouble with the talking head bit, but at least she took the time to post a biography, and recognize that he’s made a contribution to keeping some of our soldiers in combat alive:

In 2003, Gupta traveled to Iraq to cover the medical aspects of 2003 invasion of Iraq. While in Iraq, Gupta performed emergency surgery on both U.S. soldiers and Iraqi civilians. Gupta was embedded with a Marine medical unit at the time. A Marine named Jesus Vidana suffered a severe head injury and the Marines asked for Gupta’s assistance because of his background in neurosurgery. Vidana survived and was sent back to the United States for rehabilitation

A larger point to make, and one that I have yet to actually see, is why we have a Surgeon General in the first place. Koop was a nutjob, Elders was…well, she was beyond nutjob, and the guy in the position was appointed as a recess appointment in October 2007. He wasn’t ever confirmed? We never had so much as a bad masturbation joke about the guy!

Frankly, Change (to me, at least), would go a long way if you axed positions like this that are clearly not needed.

Digital Converter Coupons Are Scarce

Posted by admin On December - 26 - 2008

converter-box-coupons-full-640x480U.S. consumers who wait too long to request government coupons to subsidize converter boxes for the digital television transition in February may come up empty-handed, a regulator has warned.

Due to a last-minute rush of coupon requests, demand may exceed supply in the coming month, said the Department of Commerce official overseeing the subsidy program.

Rep. Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat who asked for the update on the digital TV transition, said Congress may need to quickly pass additional funds in early January for the coupons.
